Almost every Indonesian visa is built on the same handful of documents, and getting them right the first time is the single biggest thing you can do to avoid delays. Below is the general requirements list that applies to most visas, followed by short explanations of each item. Some visas — like the B211A, multiple-entry visas and the KITAS family — add a sponsor and financial proof on top. We have flagged those where they matter.

Passport and onward travel

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the day you arrive, and it should have a blank page available. Immigration and airlines also expect proof of onward or return travel — usually a booked flight out of Indonesia. This shows you intend to leave within your visa period and is one of the most commonly checked items at the gate.

Accommodation and financial proof

You will normally need to provide accommodation details for your stay, such as a hotel booking or the address where you will be living. Some visas also ask for financial proof — typically a recent bank statement showing you can support yourself. The VoA rarely requires this, but longer-stay and residence visas often do.

Sponsors: who needs one and why

A sponsor is a person or company in Indonesia who vouches for your visit. The B211A visit visa, multiple-entry visas and the KITAS family all require a sponsor, and student visas do too. For a Working KITAS the sponsor is the company employing you; for a visit visa it may be an agent or a host. Visa-free entry and the VoA do not need a sponsor, which is part of why they are so simple.

Photos, forms and health documents

Nearly every visa needs recent passport-style photos and one or more completed application forms. Depending on your visa type and nationality, you may also be asked for health documentation. Requirements here change from time to time, so we confirm the current list with you before you submit anything — everything on this page was last verified in June 2026.
